RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The Melbourne Guidelines for Religious Education have been adopted by the Sale Diocese as the basis for Religious Education Programs in all diocesan schools.  The diocese is currently in the process of reviewing religious education programs. All children have formal RE lessons.  The spiritual growth of the children is of extreme importance and the staff works to provide a sense of community within the school, based on the life and teaching of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospel.  At St. John the Baptist Primary School we believe that through the relationships in our school environment, we provide an opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ and to celebrate and live our Catholic traditions and practices.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMS

Children are instructed in understanding the Sacraments from Prep - Year 6.  A particular thrust is given in Year 3 for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist and in Year 6 for the Sacrament of Confirmation.   Involvement in the Sacraments is family centred, school supported and parish based.   This process involves family commitment.  Relevant dates for preparation meetings, Masses and celebrations are forwarded at the beginning of the year.  A sacramental levy is charged to each child from Prep - 6.

Parents will find that meetings are a means of up-dating their own knowledge of the changes in the Church and a means of growth in their relationship towards God, and should be considered of great importance.

LITURGY CELEBRATIONS

During the year the children will prepare class Masses and school liturgies.  Parents are always welcome to attend these. School liturgies are a very important part of the life of the school.
